License Follows the Client, Not the Therapist.
Therapy licensure in the United States is governed at the state level. A licensed therapist can only see clients who are physically located in states where the therapist holds a license. I hold active licenses in California (LMFT #105546) and Florida (LMFT TPMF785), which means I can work with you if you are physically located in either state, regardless of where you are originally from, where your company is based, or where you travel for work.
For clients who split time between the two states, this works cleanly. What matters is where you are physically located during the session, not your primary residence. If you are in California or Florida when we meet, we are in compliance.
